THE MUSICIANS
Gregory Toroian is an accomplished musical director, arranger, accompanist and songwriter in New York City. In addition to working with such artists as Tony Bennett, Jon Hendricks, Cab Calloway, Donna Summer, Melissa Errico, and Jane Olivor, he has appeared in almost every jazz club and cabaret, (major and minor), in New York. He has toured with principal dancers from the New York City Ballet, made numerous radio and television appearances, and has been featured on dozens of recordings. When not performing and touring he coaches singers both privately and publicly, having been on the faculty of The New School University and the Lee Strasberg Institute. He is currently on the faculty of Helen Baldasare’s Cabaret Performance Workshop in NYC.
New York based jazz bassist Jim Donica has worked extensively with some of the world’s finest musical artists such as Maynard Ferguson, Joe Strummer, Ron Affif, Chita Rivera, and The David Becker Tribune. Jim leads his own jazz group called Urban Survival that showcases his composition skills as well as his instrumental artistry. Recently Jim could be found working at Fienstein’s in New York City in Chita Rivera’s critically acclaimed show And Now I Sing; playing a jazz cruise with guitar virtuoso Eric Wollman who split the bill with the great Rufus Reid and his trio; and headlining at Symphony Space; and opening on Broadway in a brand new show with Chita Rivera called The Dancers Life. He is presently working on a quintet album which includes Peter Erskine, Randy Brecker, Bruce Barth, and Justin Flynn.
Drummer Ron Tierno has been one of New York’s most sought-after musicians for over thirty years. Since 1984 he has played in Broadway pit orchestras for Cats, Romance, Romance, Song & Dance, La Cage Aux Folles, A Chorus Line, Beauty & the Beast, Mamma Mia!, The Lion King, and The Drowsy Chaperone among others. He has also performed and recorded with a large number of singers and orchestras including Andrea Marcovicci, Liz Callaway, Julie Budd, Eartha Kitt, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Jane Olivor, The Radio City Rockettes, and the Boston Pops. When not performing he maintains a private studio and has given educational workshops at Sounds of Joy, Berklee College of Music, New England Conservatory and Philadelphia College of Performing Arts.
For over two decades, Helen Baldassare has trod the boards of off-Broadway, regional theatre, summer stock, supper clubs and cabarets, both here and abroad. Along the way, she has garnered numerous awards and honors. New York cabaret audiences have seen her at the original Duplex, Don't Tell Mama, The Park Ten, Caroline's Comedy Club, Eighty Eight's and Rose's Turn, as well as at the Cabaret Convention at The Town Hall and at Lincoln Center as part of the "Meet The Artists" series. Ms. Baldassare has taken her one-woman show from Salem, Oregon to Boston, Massachusetts; she received critical acclaim at The Cairo Sheraton in Egypt; and she is currently a featured guest artist at the annual Juneau Jazz and Classics Festival. She conducted a Master Class at The Lighthouse for the Blind in 1999 and, since 2001, she has conducted intensive cabaret workshops for Il Chiostro in Italy. Off-Broadway, she was an original cast member of the phenomenon known as "Nunsense," portraying nearly every role in that show over a span of several years (in New York, Florida and Washington, D.C.) and sharing the stage with Kaye Ballard, Peggy Cass and Jaye P. Morgan.
