Mad River Chorale Fall/Holiday Session
ARTISTS:
Piero Bonamico,
Rehearsals Begin Monday, September 146:45 at the Sugarbush Conference Center
For the second time the Mad River Chorale will be making a U.S. premier. This time the piece is Peter Schindler’s “Missa in Jazz”. This is a marvelous major choral work that combines a Latin text with a contemporary setting. It is by no means as “Jazzy” as our last program but more like “Magnificat, The Groovy Version of Ox.” Missa in Jazz is accompanied by Organ (Mary Jane Austin Renyolds), Percussion (Dov Schiller) and Saxophone (Michael Zsoldos). I am happy to say that the music has just arrived and that the rehearsal files (midi or cd) are now available.
Our Christmas Eve, Eve celebration concert will be filled with great arrangements of familiar tunes and a wonderful suite of seasonal carols titled “And Peace On Earth.” This richly expressive cantata sets five discrete texts, each reflecting a different aspect of Christmastide. The first movement is set to a poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson which anticipates Christ's birth; the instantly memorable, eager melody captures perfectly the sense of expectation conveyed in the text. It is followed by 'Good day, Sir Christemas', a joyous, rollicking song for children's choir; the wondrous 'This endris night'; and the contemplative, wistful carol 'Put memory away', set to a contemporary poem by Elizabeth Jennings. The last movement is a funky, rocking celebration of the Nativity, set to a 17th-century text by William Drummond of Hawthornden. Very approachable and a huge joy to sing, this is an absolute must for Christmas concerts.
